Kätte Bønløkke Andersen is an associate professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture.

Kätte Bønløkke Andersen’s research deals with architectural elements such as rooms, furniture and lighting. She is particularly interested in light and lighting as a field of research across disciplinary boundaries. In a project involving the Danish Lighting Center, Kolding School of Design and Aarhus School of Architecture she is currently developing an interdisciplinary, web-based educational material on light and lighting. She organises annually recurring theme days on light and lighting for designers, architects, engineers and representatives of the lighting industry. Here, in collaboration with other researchers, she focuses on the interplay between daylight and lighting, perceived as well as measured, in various types of rooms. She links these topics to the ongoing discussion about climate, energy and environmental issues.

In Kätte Bønløkke Andersen’s research, the aspect of perception plays a key role. She distinguishes between general lighting, functional lighting and mood lighting and explores in concrete terms how materials, shapes, colours and surfaces reflect light. How can we use the positioning of daylight openings to optimise daylight in a room, and how can we choose materials, surfaces etc. to optimise the reflection of both daylight and artificial lighting.

Kätte Bønløkke Andersen teaches and supervises graduate students at the Aarhus School of Architecture, Department of Design in the field of architectural elements: room, furniture, light and lighting. She also teaches courses on light and lighting for bachelor students at the Aarhus School of Architecture.

Kätte Bønløkke Andersen also co-organises interdisciplinary workshops on light and lighting for graduate students from the Aarhus School of Architecture and the Engineering College of Aarhus.

Kätte Bønløkke Andersen is a member of the Network for Children and Culture under the Danish Ministry of Culture.

Kätte Bønløkke Andersen graduated as cand. arch. from Aarhus School of Architecture in 1977.
