Education

One of the objectives of the Danish Centre for Design Research is to promote the development of competencies in the design profession, and thus, the DCDR contributes to developing research-based educational programmes at the schools of design and architecture. These educational activities are an essential part of the DCDR's knowledge sharing efforts.

Master's degree in design

The Danish Centre for Design Research manages the Master's programme in Design, which is provided by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. The programme offers additional academic qualifications for active, professional designers, architects, design teachers and others in design-related professions.

Ph.D. programme

The Ph.D. programme is a three-year research education programme, where students receive research training, partly by preparing a dissertation and partly through coursework. The Danish Centre for Design Research develops and offers Ph.D. courses for Ph.D. students of design. As part of the research education programme, the Ph.D. students are required to teach and disseminate their own research.

Industrial Ph.D.

The industrial Ph.D. programme is an alternative to the traditional Ph.D. programme. Industrial Ph.D. students are employed by a private company and divide their time between the company and the school of design or architecture where they have their academic advisor. The industrial Ph.D. project is carried out in collaboration with the company, and the industrial Ph.D. student takes part in Ph.D. courses along with other Ph.D. students.

The design degree programmes

The design degree programmes at the design and architecture schools are five-year-long further education programmes that include knowledge about design theory as well as hands-on work with materials, digital technology and immaterial design. The programmes are research-based but are also shaped by close interactions with the private sector.
