Masterafhandling: "Critical Design".
This task discusses the phenomenon Critical Design. It is a phenomenon, which is critical towards industrial design in general, and in this connection, especially with electronically industrial objects. Critical Design focuses on developing different kind of artefact, which appears in strange and provocating forms. They invent artefacts with poeticising and disturbing content, to make people reflect in relation to electromagnetic radiation in a broader perspective, and how this shapes the everyday life of people. Their products examine how these critical designs influence on ordinary people, in an aesthetic way.
This task discusses, in a so called post-phenomenal way, which is enlightened by Peter-Paul Veerbek, a Dutch theorist, the artefact in the mediating process. It is the old dichotomy between subject and object and try to overcome the gap between subject and object.
In this task I use Richard Shusterman who investigate the concept soma-aestehics, these critical artefacts and especially what happens in the relationship between the user and the therori deals with the conscious mind and its body and senses, as a domicile for aestethics in use.
Although the body plays an important role in generating meaning in handling the technological artefacts, the artefacts themselves has been investigated, in this task, in relation to the mediating process with the user. The task conclude that the critical artefacts form the user and the context in which they are used, and conclude as well, this mediating and dynamic process to be a aesthetic dimension, which is within the mediating. This means that it is the action situation, set free from outer and ideologically phrases, which is the aesthetic behaviour.
Critical Design has been analysed in relation to its aesthetic qualities. The case which was exposed in this connection, showed that ethic qualities was obvious in the actions, as well as the aesthetic and fused with the aesthetic qualities. These two concepts connect in this task in a symbiotic way.
